The weather has been great and the fishing has been great too. We are catching nice size Red Snapper and we are also catching some Grouper and Scamp. Most of the big Grouper have been caught on our longer 10 and 12 hour charter trips with a keeper once in while on our shorter 6 and 8 hour charter trips. Nothing like some fresh fried Snapper and Grouper. Think I’ll have some for dinner tonight. We give all of our customers a little cookbook full of local seafood recipes. Today was the first day of Red Snapper and Gag Grouper season. Red Snapper Season is June 1st- August 1st 2019. The weather was beautiful and calm seas and of course the Red Snapper where biting. The Grouper and Amberjack where biting pretty good too as you can see in the Photo.

Get Ready for Destin Red Snapper Fishing Season

Red Snapper is one of the most sought after fish that customers want to fish for from a charter boat. The limit is 2 per person and the average weight is 4 to 8 lbs. This size fish not only makes for great eating, but also they are easier for customers to handle the fight of the fish. This size fish can be caught on 6 hour or longer charter fishing trips and makes a great fishing experience for the whole family. You say you want to catch big Red Snapper well you have come to the right place, Destin Fl. is known for catching some big snapper.

TITLE

Fish as big as 20 to 30 pounds are often caught if you go on the right trip with the right boat. You can catch snapper as big as 12 to 15 pounds on 8-10 hour trips. The bigger snapper live in deep water and you will often catch grouper while fishing for them or vise or versa. The good news is grouper season is open too. We offer 10-12 hour fishing trips that are geared just for that during Red Snapper and Grouper season.

TITLE

The most common practice to fish for Red Snapper out of Destin Florida is with live bait, a slip lead and a circle hook. We fish with circle hooks because it causes less harm to the fish if you release him, it allows you to hook the fish easier, and does not require you to set the hook when you get a bite.  Most boats will have you fish for or buy live bait (if available) before you head out. Dead bait (cut bait) will work, but most of your bigger fish will be caught on live bait, most predator fish prefer live bait. Besides, catching live bait is half the fun! Destin Summer Fishing

The summer charter fishing begins with the opening of Red Snapper and Gag Grouper season. The Red Snapper season always opens June 1st and runs til mid to end of July. Gag Grouper remains open until mid Nov. Red Snapper limit is 2 per person and range from 3 lbs to 30 lbs. Everyone wants to go fish for Red Snapper and this is our busiest time of the year, so if you want to catch Red Snapper you better call now.

Inshore Fishing

Big schools of bait move in and the inshore fishing for King Mackerel heats up, along with Tarpon fishing. The King Mackerel run from 7 to 50 lbs. and they are a blast to catch on light tackle. Yes we catch Tarpon here, not on flats like in the Keys but along our second sandbar. I have caught several Tarpon on my big charter boat, we sight fish for schools of them, and cast to them. Average Tarpon I have released here is 100 lbs with some as big as 200 lbs. Now that is a fight on 30 lb tackle, not to mention all the jumps you get.

Offshore waters are warming up so here come the Wahoo, Bull Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi). Most gulf charter boats troll lures for Wahoo when heading out and again heading home.

Offshore Trolling

The offshore waters of Destin Fl offer a variety of Marlin, Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish and Swordfish. We look for weed lines that will hold bait and troll down them often catching Bull Dolphin and Wahoo. The Marlin will cruise up and down weed lines too looking for bait and then it is Hook Up time, Marlin on.
